Our Family's Preemie Arrival

My cousin Aalliyeah Nova was brought into the world a little early. Aalli had to stay in the hospital one more week after my aunt was released. It was only for safety precautions, when she was born her lungs needed help breathing. It wasn't anything major the neonatal nurses just wanted Aalli's lungs to mature to make sure that her lungs were capable of breathing on their own.

Aaliyeah inside her incubator in the NICU.

Aaliyeah now!!She is a big healthy baby girl.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

1.
  • I plan to interview Guadalupe Rios because she was my cousin's Neonatal Nurse and she is a good family friend. She is very caring and knowledgable. Guadalupe always answered all the questions I had before prior to senior project because she knew that I was interested in becoming a Neonatal Nurse.

2.  Questions that I plan to ask:

  • Why did you decide to become a Neonatal Nurse?
  • Do you prefer working in the NICU or visiting the patients and parents in the comfort of their home?
  • What in your opinion is the best part of being a Neonatal Nurse?
  • What health problems do most premature babies have?
  • What do you think is the most important part of being a Neonatal Nurse?

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship Component

1.
2.  Andrea Torres, (626) 962-8213
3.
  • How can I make sure a customer is comfortable?
  • What can I do if the customer doesn't like how their hair turned out?
  • How many hours does one work?
  • Does your hair salon have to be open seven days a week?
  • What type of training/experience do you need to open a hair salon?
4.
  • The most important thing that I gained from this experience was being able to feel comfortable talking to people I don't know. I am typically a shy person, so when my mentor put me to answer phone calls and write down their appointments and talk to customers to find out what they wanted and needed it helped me to practice my communication skills. I feel like I opened up more and I learned how to make the customer happy.
5.
  • My senior topic is going to be cosmetology.  I chose cosmetology because it always sparked and interest in me but I never really payed attention to it. I originally wanted to do nursing but once I went with my mentor for cosmetology I completely changed my mind because I enjoyed what I was doing and I find cosmetology very interesting now.
