Registered Nurse
This month I really focused on the education and work of Registered Nurses. The reason being that one must become an Registered Nurse before becoming a Neonatal Nurse. Since my mentor is a Registered Nurse I really focused on the different tasks and duties a Registered Nurse has. My mentor also recommended that I found videos of Registered Nurses to see exactly what they do. The following video gives a walkthrough of Registered Nurse named Lindsay Bateman. I really like how the video is a good visual to show Registered Nurses duties. It was very interesting to see the different duties a Registered Nurse may have, they are not just limited to one job and I really like that.

Saima and Qais
My mentor recommended finding more personal stories of mothers and their premature babies and I found one that I really liked
Saima Parveen, 26, and
her husband Mohammed, 35, live in Bradford. Their first baby, Qais, now two and
a half, was born when Saima was 25 weeks pregnant. At first Saima’s pregnancy
was going very well until she reached her 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy when
she found out that she had been bleeding. For Saima “It was very frightening, and
the doctors couldn't find a cause.” They gave her a scan, and could only reveal
the sex of the baby – it was going to be boy. Then, at 24 weeks, she bled
again. She was rushed to the hospital and was there for three days, having
steroid injections to make sure the baby's lungs were healthy enough to breathe
if he was born. They had to put Qais in
a ventilator because he couldn’t breathe on his own. Qais weighed one pound and
one ounce when he was born, but now he’s a healthy baby boy who is feisty yet
sociable. Saima explains that Qais can’t walk yet because of his developmental
delay but he is still a young healthy toddler!

Blog 11: EQ
1. I reviewed the
rule of three for writing an Essential Question.
2. What
is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
In my opinion I
think this Essential Question does meet the rule of three. It is not a yes or no question and
there could be more arguments made because the question is asking for the
"most" important factor in healthy weight loss.
What is most
important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?
In my opinion I
do not think that the Essential Question meets the rule of three because I believe that the
question does not go into much depth.
In my opinion
I do not think that this Essential Question meets the rule of three because the
answers would most likely be based on opinions and not statistic/ facts.
It would not be able to go into much depth.
In my opinion I
believe that this Essential Question does meet the rule of three. With this question one would
be able to into depth with the research. The question is very straight forward
and it is not a yes/no question.

Blog 9: Lesson 1 Reflection
1. Positive Statement
What are you most proud of in your Lesson 1 Presentation and
why?
I really liked my message board and how I did my hook activity, I felt like it was something different and creative. I was also very proud that I reached 9 minutes I wasn't confident that I would.
2. Questions to Consider
a. What assessment would you give yourself on your
Lesson 1 Presentation (self-assessment)?
AE P
AP CR
NC
b. Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence
from the Lesson 1 component contract.
3. What worked for you in your Lesson 1?
I really liked how not having a presentation or technology was helpful in a way to help me know my information more but if we did have technology I feel like I would of been able to go in more depth and show more pictures/videos that is relevant to my topic.
4. (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what
would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 1?
What I would do differently to improve me lesson 1 is maybe not read of my flashcards as much as I did because I knew all my information but my nerves got to me I just read of the cards. I also felt that I needed to be more confident because I did know my information I just kind of freaked out by the end.

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ
1.
What is your working EQ?
What
is the best way to make sure a premature baby is healthy?
2.
What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer
in thesis format.
• Making sure the baby has
correct nutrition and support to help them grow faster and healthier.
• Make sure the parents know
about the serious medical challenges the premature baby may face, good
communication with the parents is a major part in ensuring that the preemie
will be healthy.
3.
What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up
with an answer to your working EQ?
The
most important source that I have come upon to help me answer my working
EQ is an article called "A Primer on Preemies". This article has
really helped me answer some of the questions I had about premature babies. It
goes on and talks about some of the most common diseases a premature baby
may face and it has some helpful facts on premature babies themselves. It
stresses the importance of correct nutrition and why it affects
a premature baby.
4.
Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what
you are doing relate to your working EQ?
My
mentor is Diana Guevara she is registered nurse and she works at the LAC+USC
medical center she has helped me answer my working EQ because she stresses a
lot on making the patient feel comfortable. This helped me really look into
making sure the patient or patients parents are comfortable and that they are
having good communication especially in these situations. It is good to be open
and always tell the truth even if it is hard. In the end telling the truth will
make it easier on the parents to take care of their premature baby.
